Modeling charge cloud dynamics in cross strip semiconductor detectors

چکیده
When a $\gamma$-ray interacts in semiconductor detector, the resulting electron-hole charge clouds drift towards their respective electrodes for signal collection. These will expand over time due to both thermal diffusion and mutual electrostatic repulsion. Solutions profiles are well understood limiting cases accounting only repulsion, but general solution including effects can be solved numerically. Previous attempts model these have taken into account broadening of profile effects, simplified shape by assuming Gaussian distributions. However, detailed important impacts on sharing multi-electrode strip detectors. In this work, we derive an analytical approximation solution, that closely replicates width profiles. This simplifies modeling

Germanium Orthogonal Strip Detectors with Amorphous-Semiconductor Contacts
Germanium orthogonal strip detectors have been produced using amorphous-semiconductor contacts. The amorphoussemiconductor contact fabrication process is relatively simple, and it is capable of producing fine-pitched electrode structures. The bipolar blocking behavior of the amorphoussemiconductor contact permits its use on both sides of a detector, replacing conventional B ion implanted and Li...
متن کاملCharge transport in arrays of semiconductor gamma-ray detectors.
We analyze the effects of electrode size on performance of arrays of semiconductor gamma-ray detectors, especially when there is significant charge trapping. With large electrodes, motions of holes and electrons are of equal importance, but when the positive electrode is segmented into an array of small elements the contributions of holes to the output, and hence the effects of hole trapping, a...
متن کاملCharge cloud asymmetry in detectors with biased MCPs
The spatial resolution of current MCP based detector devices (<10 μm) has reached the point when such phenomenon as charge cloud asymmetry becomes important for the ultimate detector performance. We present a systematic study of the MCP charge cloud spatial distribution at the plane of the readout element. Our new readout – crossed strip (XS) anode combined with a set of preamplifiers for each ...
متن کاملCross Strip Anode Imaging Readouts for Microchannel Plate Detectors
We have developed a novel microchannel plate readout scheme, the cross strip anode. The cross strip anode has a coarse (0.5mm) multilayer metal and ceramic cross strip pattern that encodes event positions by direct sensing of the charge on each strip and subsequent determination of the charge cloud centroid for each event. Event position encoding is accomplished with chip level preamplifiers on...
متن کاملelectrical charge transfer modeling (lightning) in cloud and its implementation in a one-dimensional prognostic cloud model
one of the most dazzling events in the atmosphere is lightning. during updrafts in the life cycle of cumulus clouds, collision of graupels and ice crystals in the presence of liquid water results in vertical separation of electrical charges and lightning. there are four types of lightening depending on the location of discharge. the first type is cloud-to-ground lightning or fork lightning that...
